The 2014 House of Representatives elections were accompanied by political and security challenges that impacted the electoral process and the population's interest in the elections and voter registration. These challenges included security chaos and instability, due to the presence of militias, the proliferation of weapons, and the escalation of violence, as well as the looting and vandalism of polling stations in some areas. This led some residents to refrain from participating in the elections and to the closure of many polling stations. In addition, there were disagreements over visions and seat allocation, as well as dissatisfaction with the previous elections (the 2012 General National Congress elections). The turnout in the parliamentary elections declined, as it had been in the General National Congress elections, and the electoral base declined due to declining trust between voters and political elites.
